Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our tools and services.

Is GearVerify free to use?

Yes! All tools on GearVerify are completely free to use. No sign-up or registration is required.

Where does your data come from?

We pull data from official government sources including the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) for vehicle recalls and the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) for product recalls.

Is my data safe?

Yes. We don't store any personal information or vehicle identification numbers. All processing happens in your browser and is not saved on our servers.

How accurate is the VIN decoder?

Our VIN decoder uses the official NHTSA vPIC database, which is the same database used by manufacturers and government agencies. Results are generally very accurate.

What if my vehicle has no recalls listed?

A "no recalls found" result doesn't guarantee your vehicle has never had a recall. Recalls can be added after our last update, or may be addressed but not removed from the database. Always verify with your dealer.

Can I check recalls by VIN?

Yes! Our Recall Check tool allows you to search by make, model, and year. For VIN-specific recall checks, we recommend checking directly with the manufacturer or NHTSA.
